Welcome to the 18th edition of the International Symposium on Fish Nutrition and Feeding (ISFNF) to be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, from 3 to 7 June 2018.
With this ISFNF event, we will be celebrating more than 40 years of research since the first Finfish Nutrition and Fishfeed Technology meeting organized by FAO and EIFAC in Hamburg, Germany, in 1978. Over the past four decades, great progress has indeed been made generating a remarkable amount of information on basic nutritional science. This has led to practical developments in terms of innovative aquafeeds, meeting the nutritional requirements of a wide range of species, to effectively support the spectacular development of aquaculture production.
We have also seen that fish nutrition science has fully taken advantage of the technical advances in nutrigenomics, metabolomics, epigenetics, big data processing, etc. Nutrition science, by its interaction with other disciplines, has a central role in the regulation of all biological characteristics, which affect the production performance of farmed fish and shellfish.
As in previous occasions, we will review the current status of fish nutrition research and development, but also pinpoint new frontiers and further research needs in the field of aquaculture nutrition. The meeting will cover all aspects of nutritional science, from precise quantification of requirements for specific production performance criteria, assessing the value of novel feed ingredients and additives of nutritional or technological interest. The contributions will stress the importance of nutrition and feeding on health and physiological well-being of aquatic organisms affecting production performance and the quality and safety of farmed seafood. We will endeavor to make the proceedings of the symposia l be published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
I take the opportunity to acknowledge the participation of over 400 delegates in previous editions of ISFNF, as well as the support of the most prominent aquafeed, ingredients and fish producers.
Las Palmas is a very charming place of long beaches, moderate climate, rich history and nature, and a long tradition as one of the most professional touristic locations in the world. I warmly invite you to enjoy the high scientific quality of ISFNF meetings and experience our special social programs in our enchanting island........
